Glamour magazine is getting into the tattoo game with a tattoo contest
Glamor has a new tattoo contest, and it’s a good one, but it’s not for the faint of heart.
Glamorexpo, the tattoo-shop and gallery group founded by singer Nicki Minaj, has announced a tattoo competition in which aspiring tattoo artists will be able to choose from a slew of styles from a selection of artists across the country.
The idea is to help young tattoo artists hone their skills while helping them grow their portfolios, said Glamoreana, a spokeswoman for the Glamores boutique, in a statement.
Glamorexes “Achieving the Glimpse” is slated to take place Sept. 24-30 at a gallery in the Washington, D.C., area, Glamos website says.
The first two winners will receive $100 cash and $5,000 to their accounts.
Glimpexpo has offered the contest for about a year and will continue to work with tattoo artists, she added.
“I can’t think of a better time than right now to announce our new tattoo competition.”
The Glimpies website says that in addition to the $100 prize, there will be other perks, including a private gallery meeting with Nicki and a VIP visit.
The Glamory, the second largest tattoo shop in the country, is owned by Nicki.
She has been a tattoo artist since 2012 and is considered one of the hottest names in American pop culture, with her signature look.
Nicki, who also is a Grammy-winning musician and actress, announced she would be starting a new career as a tattooist in October.
She was nominated for a Grammy for her work on her song “I’m Glamorous.”
The company was founded in 2013, and now boasts a roster of more than 100 artists, including Minaj and Katy Perry.
Nicki Minas American Gothic Tattoo, which opened last year, also announced that it would be hosting a tattoo-themed concert Sept. 23.
It’s slated for 6 p.m. at The Rock Club, according to the website.
